"Jesus Name Only" Is Heretical

Oneness Doctrine Defined

Over the last 2000-plus years, so much has been written about Modalism or the Oneness theology. The Oneness doctrine or theology is cloaked in names such as Apostolic, Jesus-Only, Modalism, Sabellianism, Monarchianism, Jesus-Name, United Pentecostal, and Pentecostals to name a few. No matter what the label is, the teaching is the same, and that is, "the Oneness of the Godhead" is singular, or Jesus alone makes up the Godhead using Colossian 2:9 and John 10:30 as its basis. The Oneness doctrine discredits the Trinitarian doctrine of God The Father, God The Son, and God The Holy Ghost as three persons in One God because to them, that contradicts the belief in monotheism – the one God of the Old Testament. The Oneness doctrine promotes the absolute deity of Jesus Christ alone, whereby Jesus is God The Father, Jesus is God The Son, and Jesus is God The Holy Ghost, but in different modes or manifestations, or operations, or different dispensational offices. Oneness says that Jesus at different times in different functions was as follows: (1) Old Testament = Father; (2) New Testament = Son; and (3) Post-Resurrection = Holy Ghost/Spirit.

The Oneness doctrine did not first arise during the Azusa Street Pentecostal era. According to early Church history, about 195 A.D., Praxeas of Asia Minor, Noetus of Smyrna, Sabellius, and other of their disciples, through and up to the year 200 plus, were Modalists or Oneness proponents. They acknowledged the Deity of Christ but made no distinction between God The Father and God The Son as two separate persons. They did not make that distinction because they thought it not possible to believe in one God without Him being one and the same Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, otherwise, it would no longer be monotheism.

Supporters of the Oneness doctrine also believe that one must be baptized in Jesus’ name only, and that Trinitarian baptism is of paganism. It is their belief that one baptized according to Matthew 28:19, must be re-baptized in the name of Jesus only (Acts 2:38).

The Rise Of Oneness Baptism – Jesus-Name Only

The Arroyo Seco Campground in Highland Park, a suburb of Los Angeles, California, is considered to be the birthplace of the Jesus’ Name Movement. It was here in April 1913 that a ‘worldwide’ Pentecostal meeting was held. Robert Edward McAlister, a respected Pentecostal minister from Canada, was scheduled to preach at a baptismal service. He discussed various modes of baptism and their rationale. According to Frank Ewart, an eye witness:

He [McAlister] concluded abruptly by saying ‘that the scriptural answer to this was that the apostles invariably baptized their converts once in the Name of Jesus Christ, that the words Father, Son and Holy Ghost were never used in Christian baptism.’

The practice of baptizing in the name of Jesus as opposed to the trinitarian formula was not new to the Pentecostal Movement. In fact, according to some, it was present from the beginning, especially in the ministry of Charles Parham…. (Toward A Contextualized Theology for the Third World. Kenneth D. Gill. Peter Lang Publishing, Frankfurt, Germany, 1994 pp 17-18.)

It is reported that Frank Ewart began the doctrine, but Ewart, after his Holy Ghost tongue-talking experience, lost his pastorate in the Baptist church and moved to Los Angeles in 1911. In 1913, he was at the camp meeting where McAlister introduced the oneness doctrine, which means he could not have been the first one promoting the Oneness doctrine during that time.

in April 1913, when the camp meeting was held at the Arroyo Seco Campground, he [Frank Ewart] was there to attend. From Ewart’s account of the events, it is evident that the revelation of baptism in Jesus’ name preceded the development of the Oneness doctrine. This can be seen in Ewart’s description of his meeting with McAlister, to hear more about his ‘revelation,’ after the camp meeting ended.

Brother McAlister explained his revelation on the Name of Jesus: ‘Lord, Jesus, Christ, being the counterpart of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, which made Jesus’ words in Matt. 28:19, one of those parabolic statements of truth, which was interpreted in Acts 2:38 and other scriptures’…

Almost two years were needed to formulate the Jesus’ Name doctrine. A full year passed before Ewart began to preach on and baptize in the name of Jesus. It is evident that he spent the year pondering the ideas given him by McAlister. Ewart did not consider the revelation to be complete until 1915…. (Ibid., pp 20-21.)

In the Oneness churches, Jesus-Name only baptism is as prevalent today as ever.

Interjection:  I know of a young man who had accepted The Lord and wanted water baptism. At the time, he was in a small Pentecostal church and inquired about being baptized. The young man asked if the baptism would be according to Matthew 28:19, and they told him, without hesitating, it would be in Jesus’ name only.  His reply to that was "no thank you." About a year later he attended another church where the preacher was forever lifting up William Branham. The young man approached the preacher about water baptism, asking in whose name did he baptize people, and the preacher told him it didn’t matter whose name. Because it does matter whose name you're baptized in, the young man thanked the preacher just the same and found what he was looking for some place else – baptism according to Matthew 28:19.

Oneness Baptism – Jesus-Name Only, Is Not Of God

When we heard the Word of God, received it and believed, we repented and were baptized in the name of Jesus, meaning we were baptized according to the Gospel that Jesus preached; but, the actual water baptism should have been as Jesus instructed in Matthew 28:19, "in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." Saints, there must first be an understanding of what the Apostles meant by the phrase "baptize in the name of Jesus" or "whose baptism was he of" (Acts 10:48; 19:3-5). Before any one can be baptized, there must first be preaching or teaching to the person so that there is an understanding of what Christianity is, and they can then choose to want to walk in that way with God, or not. The Greek word for preach is kerusso, meaning divine truth proclaimed or published. To preach is to announce or show forth good tidings or the divine truth of God. The Scriptural phrase, to be "baptized in the name of Jesus," or to be "baptized in John’s baptism," or whomever else simply means, to be baptized based on the preaching, or the teaching, or the doctrine that one heard and received prior to making the decision to become a Christian, followed by the water immersion segment of baptism using Matthew 28:19 (In Acts 18:8, the Corinthians heard, believed, and were baptized after hearing the preaching.)

In Hebrews 6:1-2, the Saints are being told to go on to perfection and stop dwelling on the foundations such as repentance from dead works, faith toward God (in lieu of faith in God), and "the doctrine of baptism…" What is a doctrine, but instructions or the impartation of the "what", "why", and "how" of something. Going back to Matthew 28:19, Jesus said, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations… The doctrine of Christianity had to first be presented by way of preaching or teaching before one could receive water baptism. Continuing in the same verse of Scripture,  "in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost"  is to be applied for the actual water immersion – the symbolic washing of the flesh from past sins.  The Apostle Peter even referred to John the Baptist’s "baptism" as that which John preached: "after the baptism which John preached" (Acts 10:37). Church, to be baptized in one’s name is to be baptized based on the doctrine he taught or preached.  In our case, baptized based on the Gospel that Jesus preached but does not mean the water washing is in His name per se, but as He instructed according to Matthew 28:19 - The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost.

The baptism [message] of John, was it from heaven, or of man (Mark 11:30)?

This is referring to the words spoken and not the water washing for repentance – did that message or teaching come from God or from man?

And he came into all the country…preaching the baptism [message] of repentance for the remission of sins (Luke 3:3).

He was not preaching about water, nor about a baptismal font,  but the preaching/message was with regard to repentance of sin. Saints, it was the message - not the act! To be baptized in one's name meant, and still means, the message preached by that person.  When Paul went to Ephesus and met certain disciples, he asked them if they had been Holy Ghost baptized, which they had never heard of.  Paul then asked those disciples, "Unto what then were ye baptized" (Acts 19:3)? In other words, what preaching, or teaching, or doctrine did you hear, receive as a Believer, and now walk in? They, of course, told Paul, "Unto John’s baptism [message]" (Acts 19:3).  Again, to be baptized in one's name means the message preached by that person only, and does not exclude being actually water baptized in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Ghost. Saints, if you were baptized in the name of Jesus only, you were baptized under a false teaching, and you need to repent and be re-baptized according to Jesus' directions in Matthew 28:19. (By the way, if you are still in that church, you should seriously consider finding a new church home.)

Oneness Are Confused About Jesus And The Father As One

Saints, Jesus Christ was with God The Father from the beginning, or shall I say, before anything or anybody was created. Jesus is not God The Father. How can He be when it is written that Jesus was the "first begotten" – or first and only to come out of The Father (not created).

And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, and let all the angels of God worship Him (Hebrews 1:6).

Beget is to bring forth out of self. For Jesus to be "the begotten" of God The Father means that Jesus was not created as was Lucifer, Adam and Eve, and the Angels, but He came from within God – taken out of God’s Spirit, thus making Him God’s Son. It is a mystery that we cannot understand, but in due time, God will reveal it to us.

Jesus said in John 10:30 (also John 17:21), "I and my Father are one" which is as a husband and his wife are one. The husband and wife are miraculously bound as a one-flesh entity, but yet, they are two different individuals with two different functions in the human race. As out of man came the woman, out of God came His Son, Jesus, but yet each is separate and with different functions in the Believer’s life. As the husband and wife both cannot be the head of household, because there can only be one chief, that same principle applies with Father God and His Son, Jesus. Both The Father and Jesus are not chiefs, but in the union, the one whom the other came from is the Chief. They are equal in attributes, yes, but The Father is clearly Head. They are equal in attributes because Jesus came out of The Father. God The Father is Head over all and all things – He was first and Jesus came from Him. To say that Jesus and The Father is the same person makes it appear as though God does indeed have a dual personality, or He is switching roles, and that simply is not so. God The Father is over Jesus as the husband is over the wife.

I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I (John 14:28).

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also… Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him,…he that hath seen me hath seen the Father… Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me....I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son (John 14:6-13).

The statement "when one sees Jesus, he sees The Father" is not implying that they are one and the exact same who can never appear together at the same time. Seeing Jesus is seeing The Father means that they are one and the same in character, being that Jesus came out of The Father. Seeing Jesus is seeing God’s attributes imparted to His Son, Jesus.

Face it, the Oneness teaching that Jesus is The Father, Jesus is The Son, and Jesus is The Holy Ghost makes it appear as though God has multiple personalities. It appears as though God is a "little mixed up" or He is playing little games with Himself, and with us. No, that’s not God to do any or either of the above. God is straightforward with no games, and He is not out to confuse anybody. Jesus did not say "I ascend unto Jesus, and your Jesus; and to my Jesus, and your Jesus," for that sounds like crazy double talk. Instead, Jesus said, while acknowledging The Father above "all," "I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God" (John 20:17).

Saints, none of us know God The Father’s origin. We must accept that He must have begotten His Son before He created Lucifer, and before He created the angels. We must accept that Jesus came out of The Father, and was and is not of His own.

  1. In Genesis 1:26 The Father and Son were together when they made man in their image (inner man/spirit).
  2. In Genesis 3:22 The Father and Son were together when it was said, man has become as one of us (meaning mankind now knows right from wrong).
  3. In Genesis 11:6-7 The Father and Son were together when they went down to confound the language.

Jesus alone, is not God The Father, God The Son, and God The Holy Ghost; Jesus is Jesus, the second person in the Holy Trinity of God.

The Trinity

The Lord, He alone is God, and there is none other before Him, beside Him, nor after Him (Exodus 8:10; Deuteronomy 4:35, 6:4; Isaiah 43:10, 44:6-8; 45:5 and lots more). There is but ONE GOD! The term "trinity" does not appear in The Bible because it is a fact that there is only "ONE GOD", and not three separate gods. However, the "three-person" organization does appear throughout The Bible. There is a wealth of Trinitarian implications in The Bible, with most of it being in the New Testament, because this is where God began to reveal many of His secrets. They are the three that bear record in Heaven and earth.

The three-person organization is not to say that there are three separate gods, but that there are three persons with three different functions that make up the ONE GODHEAD:  (1) God The Father, (2) God The Son, and (3) God The Holy Ghost/Spirit. They three emanate from the GODHEAD. This three gods in One God, commonly known as the Holy Trinity, to the intellect, is a puzzle that cannot be put together. It is a mystery that we cannot understand, but in due time, God will reveal it to us.

The name God, which is His character, means: Spirit • Eternal • Love • Word • Holy • Good • Glory • Intimate • Just • Righteous • Merciful • Forgiving • Omniscient • Omnipresent • Omnipotent • Sovereign • Immutable • Faithful • Truthful • Wisdom • Power • Creator of all • Savior • Redeemer • Just • Provider • Healer • Counselor • Comforter • Instructor • Deliverer • Peace • Banner • Shield • Warrior, and much, much more. As we Christians study The Bible, we see all of the above characteristics in what is written about God The Father, God The Son, and God The Holy Spirit because they each make up the Godhead in total, but with different functions, and yes, there is hierarchy in Heaven.

As a believer in The Trinity, there should be no fear of abandoning the oneness of God that the Old Testament speaks of. There is and will always be but ONE GOD. There is absolutely no need to take the numerous Scriptures, one by one, to prove that God The Father, God The Son, and God The Holy Ghost is not all Jesus, and not three separate gods. "God" means deity, and in the Bible, deity is God The Father; deity is God The Son, and deity is God The Holy Ghost/Spirit – three persons in God or that come out of God.

Father

Son

Holy Ghost

Deuteronomy 32:6; Psalm 89:26; Isaiah 63:16; 64:8; Malachi 1:6; 2:10; Matthew 6:9; John 6:27

Isaiah 7:14; 9:6; Zechariah 12:10; John 1:1; 5:8 20:28; Acts 20:28;  Hebrews 1:5, 8

Exodus 29:45; Psalm 51:11; Isaiah 63:10-11; Haggai 2:5; Acts 5:3-4

Each in The Trinity is Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent in different degrees, but yet intertwined in roles.

Father

Son

Holy Ghost

Omnipotent

Has all power and is in control of all, and with no one to answer to.

Has all power and is in control of all that The Father has given Him to be over, and can do only what The Father tells Him to (John 5:19-23; 14:10).

Can only speak what He is told to, therefore is only able to do what He is told to do (John 16:13). This same Holy Ghost is the Spirits of The Father and The Son making Their abode in the True Believer (John 14:23).

Omniscient

Is all knowing and understand-ing, and with no one to answer to.

Is all knowing and understand-ing of what The Father has given Him,  and answers to The Father

Omnipresent

Is everywhere all at the same time, and with no one to answer to.

Is everywhere all at the same time, and answers to The Father.

Tertullian, the early Church theologian defined it best when he wrote in defense of The Trinity in his response to  Praxeas, the Modalist:

‘Adversus Praxean,’ Chap. 2:

We believe in one only God, yet under this dispensation, which we call ‘economy,’ that the one only God has a Son, his Word (sermo), who proceeds from himself, through whom all things were made, and without whom was made nothing. That this Son was sent by the Father into a virgin and was born of her, man and God, Son of Man and Son of God, and named Jesus Christ; that he suffered, that he died and was buried, according to the Scriptures, that he was resuscitated by the Father and taken back into heaven, that he sits at the right hand of the Father, that he will come to judge the living and the dead; who has sent thence from the Father according to his promise the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete, the sanctifier of the faith of those that believe in Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

And farther on:

And nevertheless the sacrament of the ‘economy’ is guarded, which disposes unity into trinity, arranging three, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; three, however, not in state but in degree; not in substance but in form; not in power but in aspect; but of one substance and of one state and of one power, because it is one God from whom those degrees and forms and aspects, in the name of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, are reckoned. (A Manual of Church History, Volume I, Ancient and Mediaeval Church History. Albert H. Newman. American Baptist Publication Society, Philadelphia, 1899, p 260.)

It is a mystery that we cannot understand, but in due time, God will reveal it to us.

Why Matthew 28 Water Baptism

Jesus spoke that Believers should be baptized "in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" (Matthew 28:19). This is The Trinity. Each in The Trinity has a role to play in The Believer’s walk through life while in the flesh. The Father plays a role • The Son plays a role • The Holy Ghost plays a role. They each play a role in the life of each Spirit-filled Believer. With Them each being God, They Three are "One God," and They Three are in agreement because in God there is no schism. They Three are in "one accord" because in God, They are all harmoniously working toward the same end – our salvation.

We have eternal life  through Jesus, who brought The Father’s doctrine to us (John 7:16). To keep us in this eternal life, when The Son resurrected, He sent back help, guidance, aid, and comfort – The Holy Ghost, to cover or veil (John 14:16) each Spirit-filled Believer. As Believers, we don’t just "do Jesus" in our lives, but we must do The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost because They each play an immensely important role in our lives.  Jesus did not say that Believers should be baptized in His name alone, but He specified three names. There is a reason for not being baptized in the name of Jesus alone.

These three are ONE, ONE GOD that is, and they bear record of one another in Heaven. What is it to bear record in Heaven? To "bear record" is to be a witness – as to testify, or give testimony  or an account of the known history of the performance of God. To bear record is for Them to speak the truth about each other – The Father, The Word/Son, and the Holy Ghost – truth as They have seen and know it to be.

The Father is the Head of The Son and The Holy Spirit. Yes, each is God, but nowhere is it written that Jesus is the Father. True, Jesus said, "My Father and I are one," but that is not to intimate that Jesus is The Father. It simply means Jesus came out of The Father’s Being, and was not created as all else was created. It also means that Jesus belongs to God. Jesus and The Father are one because they are made of the same substance and walk one hundred percent in the same High Holy Standard. There is a Father in heaven that is separate and apart from Jesus Christ, and He CALLS THE SHOTS!

This is the role of The Son in the life of the Believer, when we completely trust in Him – He is our:

  • redemption
  • everlasting life
  • intercessor
  • sanctification
  • wisdom
  • faith/righteousness
  • sanctification
  • empowerment
  • suffering
  • mercy

To get to that place in the Believer’s life, Christ had to first perform, in the Believer, His duties of reaching out to the sinners; forgiving sins; winning back the sinners, and offering them eternal life. The Son, Jesus, truly is the "middle man" so to speak, for we cannot get to The Father without going to The Son or through The Son; ask The Father in My name, Jesus said (John 16:23). Jesus, therefore is not God The Father, but is the one and only Mediator between God The Father and mankind. (Note:  Mary who gave birth to Jesus on earth is no mediator between God and man, and between The Son and man.)

The Holy Ghost/Spirit is not a "thing" or an "it", but a rational and immortal Being. The Holy Ghost/Spirit, is God The Father, and God The Son making Their abode (John 14:23) in the True Believer so that the Believer overcomes the world victoriously by way of holiness and righteousness unto God Almighty. It is a mystery that we cannot understand, but in due time, God will reveal it to us.

The Spirit of God dwelling in us is the Holy Ghost/Comforter/Truth who can do nothing on His own. Asking The Holy Ghost/Spirit for anything, or singing praises to The Holy Ghost/Spirit is totally outside of God’s plan for the role of The Holy Ghost/Spirit. Even though The Holy Ghost/Spirit is The Father and The Son taking up residence in The Believer, He is guided and directed by The Father and The Son to do what is needed in each of our lives, assuring us of eternal happiness promised us, provided we live holy and righteous lives.

In summary, we must be immersed in water in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Ghost because of the important interwoven roles They each play in our lives as Believers.

You Might Be Of Oneness And Not Know It

In many of the Pentecostal, Charismatic, and Apostolic churches, along with a few others, the name William Branham is most highly respected. Nine out of ten times, those speaking highly of Branham are of the "Oneness" or "Jesus-Only" persuasion. There are some high-profile ministries, today,  that hold Branham up high such as the so-called prophet, Paul Cain (worked directly under Branham), and Trinity Broadcasting, and many, many more – small and great. It is reported that T.D. Jakes is also of this theology.

Although denying he was a believer in the oneness doctrine, Branham had his own form of oneness teaching that defined God as one person who manifested Himself as three different ‘attributes’: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, rather than three Persons comprising one Godhead. He believed that the doctrine of the Trinity was the ‘Babylonian Foundation’ of the denominations. (Vengeance Is Ours. Albert J. Dager. Sword Publishers, Redmond, Washington, 1990, p 55.)

A person is what he preaches or teaches, and Branham taught some far-out things such as

  1. Trinitarianism is demonic (William Branham, Footprints on the Sands of Time. Spoken Word Publishing, Redmond, WA, 1975, pp 606-7.) (All Things Are Possible, by Harrell, p 28.)

  2.
  3. One must be baptized in Jesus’ name only (ignoring what Jesus spoke in Matthew 28:19). (Dictionary of Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements. Burgess and McGee, 1988, pp 95-96.)

  4. In healing, it was not the Holy Ghost that came upon him, but it was his angel that stood by him day and night, that told him everything to do, including personal things. That is spiritism – occultism, not God and His Holy Spirit working. (Occult Bondage And Deliverance. Kurt E. Koch. Kregel Publications, Grand Rapids, MI, 1970, p 50.)

  5. Branham falsely prophesied that in 1977, the World Council of Churches, under the Catholic Church, would consume all denominations, the rapture would take place, and the world would be destroyed. (Dictionary of Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements. Burgess and McGee, 1988, pp 96.)

  6. "Based on a twisted interpretation of Genesis 3:13, Branham taught that when Eve said, ‘The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat,’ she meant that the serpent had seduced her sexually. Out of this bestial affair was born Cain. Since that time evil has passed from generation to generation through women, who keep the seed of the serpent alive; therefore, because of their enticements, women are responsible for the evil in the world." (Vengeance is Ours. Albert James Dager. Sword Publishers, Redmond, WA, 1990, P. 56.)

Church, one cannot be walking with God while at the same time believing and preaching things that are so far out in left field that they can in no form or fashion be in tune with The Bible. What one walks in has a lot to do with what he preaches, and "birds of a feather, flock together." We must be as "wise as serpents" and know that preachers and teachers who are guilty of such false teachings, and/or highly esteeming those false teachers, we must stay away from them.

Interjection: During William Branham’s day, the late Kenneth Hagin, Sr. of Rhema Bible Training Center; the late Gordon Lindsay, founder of Christ For The Nations; and Oral Roberts, of Oral Roberts University were birds flocking together with Branham. Gordon Lindsay went so far as to write a book about the man Branham. Those three instituions, Christ For The Nations, Oral Roberts University, and Rhema Bible Training Center are still in existence and many people are going through their doors, but what are they coming out with? Are they graduating Oneness believers? (Kenneth Copeland and Benny Hinn are also known for highly esteeming William Branham.)

All of the above was said about William Branham, to say this: For a man such as Branham to have in his heart those false teachings, how can you not suspect his teaching on "Jesus Only"? Saints, how can you not suspect the preachers today who speak highly of this man? How can you not suspect preachers of the Oneness doctrine? How can you not suspect preachers of Jesus-name only baptism?  How were you baptized and by whom?

Concluding Food For Thought

To get to the Father, who is above Jesus, we must go through God The Son, Jesus The Messiah. Jesus earned that glory which Father God bestowed upon Him when He gave up His seat at The Father’s right hand to become man and be the human sacrificial Passover Lamb for our sins. Jesus, is the only "go-between" us and God The Father, and is so because of Calvary.

To live a holy and righteous life, we must follow the counsel in our spirits given us by God The Holy Ghost. We follow His counsel because He does what The Father and The Son directs Him to do.  However, we are not to ask Him for counsel or pray to Him for anything because it is still The Father we must go to through The Son, Jesus. We don’t have to figure it out but just believe God’s Word – that’s faith.

God is not some type of twisted character with a triple personality whereby He is the same person of The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. After all, wasn’t it The Father who said, "I will be to Him a Father, and He shall be to Me a Son" (Hebrews 1:5). How can one interpret that as being Jesus-Jesus and not Father-Son?

If Jesus and The Father are one and the same,

    Why did Jesus…

Again, if Jesus and The Father are one and the same,

Saints, there is no twisted little game going on in Heaven whereby Jesus is The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost. God The Father, God The Son, and God The Holy Ghost/Spirit are three persons in One God – The Holy Trinity.

God The Father is not Jesus and neither is Jesus God The Father. Daniel saw that in a visitation.

behold, one like the Son of man[Jesus] came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days [God The Father], and they brought him near before him (Daniel 7:13).

The Son of Man is Jesus, who went to the Ancient of Days, who is none other than God The Father, who is clearly of age, the everlasting God that was before Jesus.

Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out (Job 36:26).

Looking to the end time book of Revelation, The Father and The Son come to the earth at different times. The Son comes to the earth at the end of The Tribulation to rule and reign in the current Jerusalem. At the end of Jesus’ Millennial Reign, Satan will be let loose on the earth again (Revelation 20:7), to deceive the nations in going against Jesus' camp of the Saints. Fire will come down from God (The Father) out of Heaven and devour the deceived nations, and Satan will be cast into the lake of fire forever (Revelation 20:9-10). It can be deduced from this that, The God in Heaven is not the same Jesus that is on earth ruling and reigning in Jerusalem.

After that, including the judgment, then comes:

new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God (Revelation 21:1-3). Apostle John goes on describing the New Jerusalem, after which he says
And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty [Father]  and the Lamb [Jesus Christ] are the temple of it (Revelation 21:22).

And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God [Father] and of the Lamb [Son]. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God [Father] and of the Lamb [Son] shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him (Revelation 22:1-3).

In Revelation 22, only The Father and the Son are ruling and reigning. The person of The Holy Spirit will no longer have a role in the life of the Believer because the spirit of the Believer will now be immortalized to be able to face God The Father who is spirit only.

The Oneness doctrine is erroneous because God The Father is God with His own role; the Son is God with His own role; and The Holy Ghost/Spirit is God with His own role until He is removed from that position when both The Father and The Son are ruling and reigning here on earth. It is a mystery that we cannot understand, but in due time, God will reveal it to us.
