The Sons Of God And Women

And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD (Genesis 6:1-8).
For years, many of you have bought the lie that the "sons of God" in Genesis 6:4 were either angels from Heaven or demons that had sex with the daughters of men and impregnated them. One writer says,
It was Satan’s purpose, however, to contaminate the whole of Adamic womanhood and thereby to prevent the advent of the promised Seed [Christ], and it was doubtless at his instigation that angelic beings voluntarily left their aerial habitation and surrendered their dignities and responsibilities in order to commit the impious outrage of cohabiting with Adam's descendants. Using their inherent power of materialization, they entered into incongruous union with women on earth, the offspring of these unnatural marriages, being 'the heroes who were of old, men of renown.' (Satan The Prince of Darkness. Frederick A. Tatford. Kregel Publications, Grand Rapids, MI, pp 37-38, 1974.)
Much of this The Church accepted based on the view widely held in first century Judaic world. Saints, that interpretation of Genesis 6 is pure mythology – lies from Satan’s throneroom. That is a false teaching in The Church and it is time that The Church forsook that myth. Up front, you must ask yourself, if those beings were demons, why would God lay claim to demons as His sons or His children? True, God created them, just as He created us humans, but, even amongst all of the humans that God created, HE DOES NOT CALL THEM ALL HIS CHILDREN OR HIS SONS. The sons of God are those obedient to Him, whether they be angels or human beings. Anyone that is not loyal to God and obedient to His Word, is not His son, and demons most certainly are not loyal to God. They are not received as sons of God for the following reasons:
Before continuing with the subject, we can safely rule out the Genesis 6 sons of God as having been demons or incubi.

Interjection:   Incubi are demon spirits that have sexual contact with human females, and succubi with human males. They do not have actual intercourse because they have no reproductive organs. They give humans the sensation of having sexual intercourse, and other perverted sex acts, including nocturnal emissions. You have got to understand the power and perversion in demons to believe that this actually happens. Believe me, based on my experience in deliverance, I have come across one person that was having sexual experiences with a succubus and nocturnal emissions that needed the prayer of deliverance prayed over him. I had read about such, believed it, but it wasn’t until  recently that I actually came across someone needing deliverance from a succubus.

How Folks Came Up With Them Being Angels And Not Men

The word angel means "messenger." There are two types of angels. (1) Holy angels who love God, praise God, serve as messengers from God to His people, and they guard His throne. True, angels are called "sons of God" (Job 1:2, 2:1, 38:7; Psalm 89:6) and are so because of their love and obedience to Him. That goes for anyone in heaven or on earth that loves and obeys God. (2) Unholy angels who hate God and His people, and are out to destroy God’s people by robbing, destroying, and killing them. The latter serve Satan and also serve as messengers bearing evil and perverse messages to God’s people and people that are devoted followers of Satan.

For many, many years, a lot of preachers and teachers used The Book of Enoch to backup the Genesis 6 angelic myth. There is First Enoch and Second Enoch. First Enoch is brought together in five sections that were written at different times. It is in the second section, chapter six that reveals the vision about the sons of God in Genesis 6 being angels – supposedly good angels. Before the excerpts from First Enoch, please keep the following facts in mind.

  1. Between Malachi and Matthew, God did not speak to the Jewish people for 450 years. There were no prophets. This is referred to as the Intertestamental Period. God didn’t speak to them because they were in rebellion and consequently in bondage under the Greek and Roman rules.

Jews did not stop writing for centuries between the Old Testament and the New. The Intertestamental  Period was a time of much literary production. We designate these writings as Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha…They did not attain canonical status, but some of them were cited by early Christians almost on a level with the Old Testament writings, and a few were copied in biblical manuscripts. Some New Testament authors were familiar with various non-canonical works, and the Epistle of Jude [Jude 14-15] made specific reference to at least one of these books. They were ultimately preserved by the Christians rather than by the Jews. (Holman Bible Dictionary. Trent C. Butler; Holman Bible Publishers; Nashville, TN, P 69, 1991.)

  1. Apocrypha, meaning "things that are concealed" contains 15 books that were written between 200 B.C. and A.D. 100. These books are included in the Catholic Bible, but not accepted by Protestants. Catholics call them Deuterocanonical instead of Apocrypha. To name a few of the books: Baruch, Tobit, First and Second Maccabees, et al.

These books are considered legendary and untrustworthy. They are uninspired. They were not accepted into the Christian or Jewish canon of Scripture. However, though not God-inspired, the writings on "First Maccabees is an authentic narrative of the Maccabean struggle against Antiochus Epiphanes. Second Maccabees covers substantially the same ground, with some extension of scope, but is legendary and untrustworthy." (A Manual of Church History: Volume I. Albert Henry Newman. American Baptist Publication Society; Philadelphia, PA, p 42, 1911.)

  1. Pseudepigrapha, meaning "writings falsely attributed" contains 52 books of which the Book of Enoch is one.

A large body of pseudepigraphical literature grew up in the second and third Christian centuries, especially among the heretical sects. (Ibid., p 44.)
 

Some of these books are Adam, Enoch, Life of Adam and Eve, The Testament of Moses, et al., and were supposedly written by these people.

These books as well are considered legendary and untrustworthy. They are uninspired and nor were they accepted into the Christian or Jewish canon of Scripture.

  1. Jesus nor the apostles quoted any of these books or writings.

  2. If God wasn’t speaking to the Jewish people, then Satan was positively, unmistakably speaking to those writers. Satan was certainly speaking because of the clashes between those writings and the writings that were inspired by God through His true prophets, and The Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Please keep the above points in mind while reading the following excerpt from Enoch:

The Book of Enoch, Section II, Chapters 6-7; Chapters 12-15

 [Chapter 6] And it came to pass when the children of men had multiplied that in those days were born unto them beautiful and comely daughters. And the angels, the children of the heaven, saw and lusted after them, and said to one another: 'Come, let us choose us wives from among the children of men and beget us children.' And Semjaza, who was their leader, said unto them: 'I fear ye will not indeed agree to do this deed, and I alone shall have to pay the penalty of a great sin.' And they all answered him and said: 'Let us all swear an oath, and all bind ourselves by mutual imprecations not to abandon this plan but to do this thing.' Then sware they all together and bound themselves by mutual imprecations upon it. And they were in all two hundred….

[Chapter 7] And all the others together with them took unto themselves wives, and each chose for himself one, and they began to go in unto them and to defile themselves with them, and they taught them charms and enchantments, and the cutting of roots, and made them acquainted with plants. And they became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was three thousand ells [11 feet*]: Who consumed all the acquisitions of men. And when men could no longer sustain them, the giants turned against them and devoured mankind. And they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and fish, and to devour one another's flesh, and drink the blood. Then the earth laid accusation against the lawless ones.

[Chapter 12]  And I, Enoch, was blessing the Lord of majesty and the King of the ages, and lo! the Watchers [Angels] called me - Enoch the scribe - and said to me: 'Enoch, thou scribe of righteousness, go, declare to the Watchers of the heaven who have left the high heaven, the holy eternal place, and have defiled themselves with women, and have done as the children of earth do, and have taken unto themselves wives: Ye have wrought great destruction on the earth: And ye shall have no peace nor forgiveness of sin: and inasmuch as they delight themselves in their children, The murder of their beloved ones shall they see, and over the destruction of their children shall they lament, and shall make supplication unto eternity, but mercy and peace shall ye not attain.’
[Chapter 13] And Enoch went and said: 'Azazel, thou shalt have no peace: a severe sentence has gone forth against thee to put thee in bonds: And thou shall not have toleration nor request granted to thee, because of the unrighteousness which thou hast taught, and because of all the works of godlessness and unrighteousness and sin which thou hast shown to men.' Then I went and spoke to them all together, and they were all afraid, and fear and trembling seized them. And they besought me [Enoch] to draw up a petition for them that they might find forgiveness, and to read their petition in the presence of the Lord of heaven. For from thenceforward they could not speak (with Him) nor lift up their eyes to heaven for shame of their sins for which they had been condemned. Then I wrote out their petition, and the prayer in regard to their spirits and their deeds individually and in regard to their requests that they should have forgiveness and length….

[Chapter 14] I saw in my sleep what I will now say with a tongue of flesh and with the breath of my mouth: which the Great One has given to men to converse therewith and understand with the heart …. I wrote out your petition, and in my vision it appeared thus, that your petition will not be granted unto you throughout all the days of eternity, and that judgment has been finally passed upon you: yea (your petition) will not be granted to you. And from henceforth you shall not ascend into heaven unto all eternity, and in bonds of the earth the decree has gone forth to bind you for all the days of the world. And (that) previously you shall have seen the destruction of your beloved sons and ye shall have no pleasure in them, but they shall fall before you by the sword. And your petition on their behalf shall not be granted, nor yet on your own: even though you weep and pray and speak all the words contained in the writing which I have written….

[Chapter 15] And He answered and said to me, and I heard His voice: 'Fear not, Enoch, thou righteous man and scribe of righteousness: approach hither and hear my voice. And go, say to [the Watchers of heaven] who have sent thee to intercede for them: You should intercede for men, and not men for you: Wherefore have ye left the high, holy, and eternal heaven, and lain with women, and defiled yourselves with the daughters of men and taken to yourselves wives, and done like the children of earth, and begotten giants (as your) sons. And though ye were holy, spiritual, living the eternal life, you have defiled yourselves with the blood of women, and have begotten (children) with the blood of flesh, and, as the children of men, have lusted after flesh and blood as those [also] do who die and perish. Therefore have I given them wives also that they might impregnate them, and beget children by them, that thus nothing might be wanting to them on earth. But you were [formerly] spiritual, living the eternal life, and immortal for all generations of the world. And therefore I have not appointed wives for you; for as for the spiritual ones of the heaven, in heaven is their dwelling. And now, the giants, who are produced from the spirits and flesh, shall be called evil spirits upon the earth, and on the earth shall be their dwelling…. (The Book of Enoch. R.H. Charles. Saints, many a preacher/teacher has gone to these writings as a legitimate source of reference, but these writings cannot be relied upon because they have some truths thrown into them. Where in The Bible have you read of humans interceding for angels? Angels intercede for us, yes, but not us humans for them. Seriously consider the fact that the majority of these books were not written in the Hebrew language as were the other Holy Spirit inspired writers of the Old Testament. Also consider these extra books as non-Holy Spirit inspired because they contradict God’s Word by teaching corrupt practices such as magic, lying, suicide, and more. That’s clearly not God. God’s Word is true and man’s words are deceitful. Remember that God is immutable, and He does not have a split personality; therefore He would not go against His high holy standard by condoning such practices.

Genesis 6 Sons Of God, Please Come Forward

A son is a child and the Word of God says that God’s sons or His children are those that believe in Him (John 1:12) and to believe in Him is to obey Him. Sons have a relationship with The Father. Sons look to The Father. Sons believe in The Father. From this we also know that demons are to be ruled out as having married the daughters of men because demons don’t believe in God’s name. In fact, they can’t. Besides, why would demons call on the name of God – they hate God, which was why they rebelled against Him in the first place. A son of God does as Enoch in Genesis 5:22 – they walk with God …Enoch walked with God….

You must be of the understanding that "sons of God" means anyone created by God that is obedient to God as a New Testament answer to an Old Testament question. Beings created by God includes angels who are spirits and mankind whose spirit is currently encased with flesh. During this dispensation, it is the spirit of man that God looks upon and not the flesh because He will have nothing to do with flesh. Flesh decays. It decays because sins of pleasure works in the flesh.   
But as many as receive him [Jesus], to them [man’s spirit, not his flesh] gave he power to become the sons of God; even to them that believe on his name (John 1:12).
To become a son of God, one must believe on the name of Messiah/Savior and that God The Father sent Him. To believe on His name is not merely believing that Jesus is the Son of God and The Savior of mankind. Remember, demons as well "know" that for a fact. "To believe" is not just saying it in word, but is to accept His Word and walks in His Word – The Gospel – God’s High Holy Standard. Believing is as Jesus Himself said, that after hearing The Gospel,   
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned (Mark 16:16).
Now, how do you know a Believer on His name? Jesus went on to say

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover (Mark 16:17-18).

 

"love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength…" (Mark 12:30).

    
This said nothing about the flesh loving God because flesh can’t love – flesh lusts. Flesh lusts for the things of this world. It’s the flesh that gets tempted and more times than not, overrides what the spirit wants to do. "the spirit indeed indeed is willing [to obey God], but the flesh is weak [gives in to sin]" (Matthew 26:41). With this kind of love is automatic obedience and loyalty to God, whether it is angelic spirits or the spirits of mankind. Saints, it’s the spirit of mankind that loves The Lord and it’s the spirit that is made a son of God’s, just as the holy angels are sons of God.
Since Messiah Jesus’ resurrection, mankind (Mark 16 Believers) as "true worshippers shall [do] worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him" (John 4:23).
Interjection: Worshipping in spirit and in truth requires Holy Ghost baptism evidenced by speaking in tongues. This is inner-man/spirit speaking with God who is Spirit. By praying with understanding or your mind, or reading from a prayer book will not get you there.
Old Testaments Sons Of God
 

And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord (Genesis 4:26).

When mankind calls upon the name of God that means they believe God is all that He says He is and will do all that He says He will do, and are obedient to Him. This was what Enoch did when He walked with God.

And Enoch [a Believer] walked with God… (Genesis 5:22).

   
This is what sons of God do – they walk with God. Walking with God is not walking to and fro doing what pleases self, but is pursuing God’s ways, or walking along in existence behaving as God desires you to – obedient, righteous/faithful, holy, loyal, and loving. While walking in that manner, one cannot help but believe God is all that He says He is, and will do all that He says He will do.

Sons of God that walk with God are sanctified and obedient. Beginning with Enoch, through his son Mathusala, his son Lamech on up to Noah, God had his sons – obedient ones on earth. They were, of course, from the seed of Seth, Adam and Eve’s third son. Through the lineage of Cain, there is no mention of those descendants living to please God. Cain was wicked and his works were evil, and his descendants were as he. Surely, you must by now get the picture as to who "the sons of God" are – descendants of Seth.

Saints, shed the myth that "the sons of God" in Genesis 6:4 were angels. We know from God’s Word that His angels (holy and unholy) are spirits and this means that they have no flesh. Spirits, unlike human beings, have no need to procreate because God did not intend for them to populate the heavens through such means, nor the earth for that matter. Being that they are spirits, what would be the need for fleshly tools to procreate? Angels are sexless and are therefore without the sexual tools needed to have sex and have children. Angels do not marry. Jesus made that clear when He answered the Sadducees’ question about marriage and the resurrection.   
For in the resurrection they [referring to humans] neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven (Matthew 22:30).
That Scripture announces that when The Saints give up the ghost, they will do as already practiced by the angels – not marry. Marriage is for procreation. Saints, no angels, good or bad, are about the business of making babies. They don’t have what is it takes to make babies – no reproductive organs.

Again be reminded, those sons of God in Genesis 6 were not God’s holy angelic beings but were BELIEVERS. They were human beings, descendants of Seth, who were loyal to God by living righteous, holy, and obedient lives based on what they knew about The One True God, but because of free moral agency, they opted to let their flesh get the better of them. They took on relationships with the slime of the earth and it got them into all sorts of trouble.

The Daughters Of Men   
the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair [beautiful]; and they took them wives of all which they chose (Genesis 6:2).
As mankind began to multiply there were those that called upon the name of The Lord and those that did not. (The difference between them then and now is that, now we have (1) those calling upon The Lord with sincere hearts; (2) those calling with insincere hearts; and (3) those with no heart or not calling at all.) Going on, the descendants of Seth ("Sethites"), "the sons of God," called upon the name of The Lord (Genesis 4:26); the descendants of Cain, "men" or "mankind," did not call upon the name of The Lord. There is an instance in The Bible where God refers to the rebellious as "children of men," and they were such because they were not obedient followers of God.   
And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower [Babel], which the children of men [non-believing male and female] builded (Genesis 11:5).
Children of men or more specifically, daughters of men point to women that were not God’s people because they didn’t walk with God – they didn’t call upon His name.

The descendants of Cain produced fair or beautiful daughters that strongly attracted the attention of the believing Sethites. From the looks of this, Satan began work in these men to prevent the coming of Messiah Jesus, using the beauty of these women, so that the Sethite men would gradually abandon their walk with God. It worked. The Sethite men became unequally yoked with non-believing women – the hedge about them was slit, and the enemy, Satan, entered in with the legal right to do whatsoever he wanted. The Sethite men gave in to strange women, or those not walking with The True God of all creation.

Interjection: King Solomon loved "strange women" and in fact had hundreds of wives and concubines – all strange. What happened next? "his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his [Solomon’s] heart was not perfect [ not sold out to God] with the Lord his God….For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. And Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord…" (I King 11:4-6).

For all eternity, that is the result when the Saints of God have relationships with the unsaved. The Sethites, though before Solomon’s time, did exactly the same thing as Solomon: "they took them wives of all which they chose" (Genesis 6:2). They had themselves more than one heathen/unbelieving wife at a time, and their hearts turned from serving God Almighty. God has always commanded His people not to marry unbelievers because He knows the consequences of being unequally yoked – SPIRITUAL DEFECTION. Therefore, it cannot be said that throughout the ages, God’s people have "unequally yoked together" with unbelievers and no calamity of such proportion as the flooding of the earth came upon them. This refutes the premise that the flood had to have been because of the angels mixing with women and producing giants as the ultimate sin before God’s eyes. Church, we know that for the person that walks with God there is always a price to be paid for yoking with an unbeliever in marriage or any other type so-called relationship. It spells sin! It spells disaster! No, the earth will not be flooded again, but there will be floods of trouble in the lives of persons involved in unequally yoked relationships – always.

Giants In The Earth At That Time

After the Sethites turned from loving and serving God, knowing how long-suffering God is, and apart from overriding their free will, God did everything possible to get the Sethites to turn back to Him. Of course they did not, and The Lord said,

My spirit shall not always strive with man [mankind], for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years (Genesis 6:3).

   
God stopped short of destroying man, but punished them by shortening their life span from hundreds of years to just 120 years. (Seth lived to be 912 years old.) Here comes the next myth taught in The Church regarding the following verse of Scripture.   
There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown (Genesis 6:4).
This verse of Scripture does not read that the children these women bore for the sons of God were giants as in "eight feet" tall or more and with superhuman strength – Nephilim.

  1. The Hebrew word for giant is nephiyl meaning a bully or tyrant and combined with another Hebrew word for giant, gibbowr meaning powerful, warrior, tyrant, strong, does not mean giant as in stature.   

  2. After establishing the fact that there were already in the earth, men that had become powerful warriors or valiant men, these children between the sons of God and the female descendants of Cain were likewise. and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown (men of honor or of high regard because of them being tyrants or powerful warriors that bullied). These children born are the same as the mighty men of high regard that were before them. They are because they don’t walk with God and their trust is not in God, but in themselves.

This is not said to diminish Goliath’s stature (I Samuel 17:4), and a few other giants mentioned in The Bible. Goliath was six cubits and a span. A cubit is 18 inches and a span is 9 inches. Goliath was around 9 feet and 8 inches tall. He was assuredly a giant. Giant in Genesis 6 means strength and high regard due to their bullying tactics and, not physical stature. Bullies are wicked people and these people were no different. They had no regard for God and would therefore do whatsoever they pleased.

Putting The Myth To Rest   
 

And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD (Genesis 6:5-6).

Saints, God is not at all unfair that He would punish only the human beings and not those angels who supposedly initiated sexual contact with the women. First off, God would never permit such affairs between angels and humans, even if it were possible. Just as God has a limit for the waters of the sea, He has controlled limited contact between Angels and humans. Angels, Satan and his demons all have definable limits because they were created. God is still in control of all and will always and forever be in control of all.

God saw the wickedness of man on earth being great when those that had recognized Him and loved Him went to the other side – sin. They sinned progressively. Every idea unimaginable in the hearts of men became progressively evil. That is to be expected when we stray from God. Since there were so few people on earth, and all of them were evil (except for Noah and family), God was grieved that He had ever created man. Note, God said "man" and not "angels." As said before, if these "sons of God" were angels, why didn’t God punish them? He didn’t punish them because they were not angels from Heaven or demons, but were backslidden Believers who had turned their backs on God, righteousness and holiness.

God’s expression of His intent to destroy man, beast, creeping things, and fouls of the air was directed to His creations on earth, and not angelic beings in Heaven, not Satan and his hoards, and most certainly not those demons already chained in hell. God repented of having made man because of the sin of not walking with Him, after which man ultimately ended up in great wickedness. Because this had gone on for such a long time, God decided to destroy all because all were wicked except for Noah and his family who found grace in His eyes. Saints, Church of Jesus Christ, trash your belief that angels married humans and produced 11-foot tall children that became so wicked God destroyed the whole earth with water. The source for this is unfounded and came straight from Satan and his demons.
